Avocados are one of the world’s most popular tropical fruits due to its high nutritional value, pleasant taste, versatility and ease of preparation.

In Peru it is grown mainly in regions like La Libertad, Lima, Ancash, Ica and Junín, which produce mainly two varieties: Hass and Fuerte. In Colombia, avocado production concentrates in the departments of Antioquia, Tolima, Caldas, Risaralda, Quindio, Cauca, Cauca Valley and Santander.

• HASS avocados are characterised by a rough, pebbly skin; when ripe, their colour changes from green to dark purple; it is not fibrous, but it has quite a creamy texture.
• FUERTE avocados have a green and thin skin, with a smooth surface, and they remain green when ripe. Their flesh has a pale green, creamy texture.

Avocados have a high content of vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that helps renew cells and consequently has a rejuvenating effect. The fruit can be consumed fresh or as frozen pulp, paste and/or guacamole. It is also a very versatile fruit, used in refreshing juices, colourful snacks, hot sauces, healthy salads and delicious desserts.
